Carambola/Star Fruit is a tropical FRUIT with smooth, star-shaped skin, edible Averrhoa carambola (family Averrhoaceae). Sour or sour star fruit and closely related bilimbi (A. bilimbi) are thought to have originated in the southeast.

Carambola/Star Fruit Morphology:

The fruit is about 2 to 6 inches (5.1 to 15.2 cm) long and oval in shape. It usually has five prominent longitudinal ridges, but in rare instances may have 4 or 8 or more. It looks like a star because of the cross-shaped division or division. The skin of the kamaranga is thin, smooth, and waxy and turns a dark yellowish light color when mature. The inner fleshy area is clear and light yellow in color. Each fruit may contain 10 to 12 flat light brown seeds that are 0.25 to 0.5 inches (0.64 to 1.27 cm) in width and are soft and sticky.l Once removed from the fruit, they lose viability within a few days.Chuka variety ‘Golden Star’, fruit can also be sweet if given a chance to ripen.
